2020 WBCSD Corporate Engagements

In 2020, we will continue to work with our members in driving transformative business solutions at scale to show action leadership and accelerate the transition to a sustainable, inclusive and thriving economy good for the people and planet.

As in previous years, WBCSD will therefore lead business engagement at key international platforms across the year. The following events will constitute key milestones in advancing this ambitious yet indispensable agenda.

WBCSD 25th Anniversary Alumni Dinner, Geneva, 18 March 2020

In 2020, we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the WBCSD. To recognize the importance of this milestone, an exclusive CEO-level dinner for Founding Members and VIPs, will be held in Geneva on Wednesday, 18 March 2020. The dinner will be preceded by an informative session from 16:00 – 18:00, outlining WBCSD’s key directions for the coming decade. The event is invitation only. WBCSD Liaison Delegate Meeting, Montreux, 20-23 April 2020

2020 will be a crucial year that will kick off the “decade of delivery” on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is a key moment for business to raise ambition, show action leadership and accelerate the transformations that are required to safeguard the future of humanity.

IUCN World Conservation Congress, Marseille, France, 11-19 June 2020

Mark your agendas today to join WBCSD at IUCN’s World Conservation Congress, which will bring together thousands of government officials, civil society representatives and businesses to set the conservation agenda for this critical decade. Across the week, we will lead the organization of important sessions including on the True Value of Food and One Planet Business for Biodiversity (OP2B).

The Congress will be preceded by a CEO Summit on 11 June which will gather visionary CEOs to engage in solutions to safeguard nature and contribute to the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. A partner of the Post-2020 joint pavilion, WBCSD will participate in various activities across the week. More information will be available shortly.

2020 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and WBCSD Member Meeting in North America, New York, 13-16 July 2020

Under the theme of ‘Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development’, the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), will take place will take place between 7-16 July 2020 and include voluntary national reviews by 50 UN Member States, as well as a variety of thematic discussions.

For the fourth consecutive year, WBCSD will lead business engagement at this key intergovernmental platform during the ministerial segment from 14-16 July by co-hosting its flagship event Chief Sustainability Officers for SDGs with UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) on Tuesday 14 July 2020 (to be confirmed).

Our broad engagement at the HLPF will kick off with the WBCSD Member Meeting in North America on Monday 13 July 2020. Mark your calendars for this key event for which additional information will follow.

United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), New York, 15-30 September 2020

The month of September will be marked by a series of key events in New York including the Leaders Biodiversity Summit on 20 September, which will highlight the urgency of action at the highest level in support of a post-2020 global biodiversity framework, and the commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations on 21 September.

Building on the success of last year’s events, WBCSD will have a broad presence across these weeks, including the second edition of our CEO Networking Dinner, the date for which will be communicated shortly.

WBCSD Council Meeting 2020, Tokyo, 12-16 October 2020

Our Council Meeting in 2020 will take place in Tokyo on 13-16 October 2020 and will be preceded by a Japan Day on Monday 12 October.  Book your agendas today to join us in one of the world’s most vibrant cities, which will also host the 2020 Olympics, set to be one of the most sustainable and inclusive games ever organized. Inspire and be inspired by Japanese businesses’ technological prowess as the country steps up to embrace ESG integration and advance the implementation of the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure) guidelines to realize the SDGs. The Tokyo Meeting will also be a landmark event for WBCSD as we launch WBCSD’s refreshed Vision 2050 on our 25th anniversary.


United Nations Biodiversity Conference (Convention on Biological Diversity COP 15), Kunming, 15-28 October 2020

Under the theme of “Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth”, CBD COP 15 in Kunming China will seek to reinforce eco-based innovations for a sustainable future. The event will provide an opportunity for WBCSD members to step up action in favor of nature, and work towards integrating biodiversity into their strategic plans and processes. The event will also be a key moment to showcase transformations in different sectors already underway and inspire more ambitious action. A Business day will be organized within the framework of the Conference. More information about WBCSD plans will be available in the coming months. 

UNFCCC COP 26, Glasgow, 9-20 November 2020

In 2020, United Kingdom, in partnership with Italy, will host the UNFCCC COP 26 in Glasgow. As in previous years, WBCSD will continue leading business engagement throughout this critical process and more information about engagement opportunities will be communicated soon.
